‘They tried to hide forever’

Angel Ureña, Bill Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, spoke out after his boss featured prominently in the Epstein files released by Trump’s DOJ, accusing the current administration of trying to use the former president as a “scapegoat”.

“The White House has not been hiding these files for months only to finish them late on a Friday to protect Bill Clinton,” said Ureña, who worked for Clinton for several decades, in a statement on X. “This is about protecting themselves from what comes next, or what they try to hide forever. So they can release as many grainy photos as they want of 20 years of Clinton. He has, he never will.”

As Ureña continued, he called Trump’s chief of staff Susie Wiles, noting that the latter said on the record that “Donald Trump was wrong about Bill Clinton” and his claim that the prominent Democrat visited Epstein’s infamous private island several times. (Wiles later clarified that there was “no evidence” to prove Trump’s claims.)

“There are two types of people here,” Clinton’s deputy chief of staff continued. “The first group knew nothing and cut Epstein off before his crimes came to light. The second group continued relationships with him afterward. We are in the first. No amount of stopping people in the second group is going to change that.”

According to Ureña, “everyone, especially MAGA, expects answers, not scapegoats.”

A representative for the White House and the DOJ did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

The federal government began releasing files related to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein on Friday, a month after President Trump ordered their release following a bipartisan push in Congress. As the reporters began sorting through the files, photos of Clinton and Michael Jackson emerged – although large chunks of the files had also been redacted.

Many criticized the DOJ over the release, with many noting that the Epstein Files Transparency Act meant the government was meant to hand over all the documents on Friday.

Although, the White House sang a different tune on the dropping of the files. White House spokeswoman Abigail Johnson said in a statement that “the Trump Administration is the most transparent in history.”

“By releasing thousands of pages of documents, cooperating with the subpoena request of the House Oversight Committee, and President Trump recently calling for more investigations into Epstein’s Democratic friends, the Trump Administration has done more for the victims than the Democrats ever did,” she said.
