Micron Technology will begin construction on a new $100 billion semiconductor megafab in Onondaga County, New York, with an official start on January 16, 2026.
The project follows the completion of environmental reviews and the receipt of the necessary permits, which will allow land preparation and building work to begin.
Company leaders, including chairman, president and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, will take part in the ceremony along with officials from federal, state and local government, as well as representatives of the business community.
The site in Clay, New York, will become the largest semiconductor manufacturing plant in the United States and represents the most significant private investment ever made in New York state.
Micron intends to invest up to $100 billion over 20 years to build as many as four fabs, with an initial phase of $20 billion targeted for completion by 2030.

The development forms part of Micron’s strategy to raise American-made DRAM production to 40% of global production within ten years.
The company expects that the increase in production at the New York site will contribute to meet the growing demand for memory components used in artificial intelligence systems and other technology sectors central to current economic trends.
Micron’s investments are supported by incentives at various levels of government.
The company secured up to $6.4 billion in direct CHIPS Act funding for work on facilities in Idaho and New York as well as expansion in Virginia.
New York State has allocated up to $5.5 billion in GREEN CHIPS incentives for the duration of this project.
In general, Micron anticipates eligibility for the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit (AMIC) in its developments in the United States.
The company projects that its New York megafab will create close to 50,000 jobs statewide, which includes about 9,000 direct Micron positions.
