According to coverage from Cuffed by Cops, officers from the New Smyrna Beach Police Department were investigating a hit and run on Pioneer Trail when Palmieri allegedly drove past an officer at a high rate of speed. The Police said that Palmieri was driving a white 2024 Ford Mustang when she passed another vehicle in a marked no-passing area and sped towards an officer who entered the road and signaled for her to stop. The officer said that Palmieri did not slow down, brake, or follow commands directly, he added. He said he had to pull out of the lane to avoid being hit.

Minutes later, officers found the Mustang parked in a nearby residential area. When they arrived at the garage where the vehicle was found, they found that the hood was hot, meaning the car had been driven recently. The Police made contact with Palmieri inside the garage, and she acknowledged that she met the officer while continuing to drive regardless. She said that she thought that the man was just an individual in black and white and not an officer, and that he was not at all in front of her vehicle. The officers rejected that explanation, telling Palmieri that she had been given clear hand signals to stop and that the episode was filmed on a body camera. She was immediately arrested.
