Hi, I’m Alexa, and I usually use this space to track Donald Trump’s “hot” economy, but we also need to examine how his policies are affecting everyday people — especially his loyal followers. So, welcome to Donnie Hate Watch.

To understand today’s disgruntled Trump voter, first, allow me to take you back to the 2024 presidential election. During a debate, Trump was asked if – after 10 years of anticipation – he finally had a plan on how to replace the Affordable Care Act. His answer? “I have concepts of a plan.”

Well, his “plan concepts” were apparently enough to make millions of supporters trust his vague vision.

(Some have even seen their health care premiums double.)
A disgruntled voter includes this anonymous poster on Facebook who wrote, “I voted for Trump hoping that by getting rid of all the illegals, he would finally make our Health Care system better now that they are not leaving the system.”

“Now that 2.5 million illegal aliens have been deported, why is our insurance higher than ever? The cost of my prescription drugs has gone up and the quality of care seems worse than ever.”
“When will things start to turn around? I worm not be able to afford Health Insurance this year with how bad its got.”
“I’m losing faith Mr. Trump!” they concluded.

Um, a few fact-checking notes:
1. The Affordable Care Act prohibited undocumented immigrants from obtaining health insurance through the ACA marketplaces. As of 2025, many legally present immigrants have been excluded from the market as well. So, we’re not sure about the anonymous poster’s misspelled “leach from our system” comment. And;
2. Insurance tends to get cheaper as more people join, so this thinking is already frowned upon.

Netizens suggested that the increase in premiums should show Trump voters that, perhaps, it was not undocumented immigrants who were driving up prices.
“Undocumented immigrants were never the problem, but they were easy to exploit as a boogeyman,” said Reddit user 0zzm0s1s.. “Trump supporters don’t like to hear that our problems are complicated and require elaborate politics, investments, and compromise to solve. They like to hear the angry man talk loudly about how all their problems can be solved by building walls, deporting immigrants, and making other countries pay tariffs. It didn’t matter that any of that stuff, now it was just that he was never going to work well and that he would never he wasn’t going to work well. back in the White House, he couldn’t care less about their problems.”
Similarly, user Protoman had advice for anyone wondering why deportations aren’t cutting costs:
“The same reason you kick yourself in the balls doesn’t reduce health care costs. Because those two things are unrelated, stupid,” they said.
The internet is like, “Maybe leeches are someone else…”
“Couldn’t it be that the leeches, all this time, were… the rich? DUN DUN DUUUUN,” commented user ThoughtfulLlama.

In general, commenters wondered what research the anonymous poster might have done before casting their vote.
“He thought that having fewer people around who could pay into his health insurance plan would make it cheaper?” user janthon567 posed.
And they left one last piece of advice:
“According to Trump [insurance prices] they are better than ever. Maybe if you don’t like the US you can just leave?” said user Yvanna.
YIKES. What are your thoughts?
