Jeff Bezos’ Ex Makes Major Financial Change After Reports He And Lauren Sanchez Are Going To Court For Money

MacKenzie Scott is sticking to her word and donating the majority of her wealth. Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife has an ongoing streak of charitable donations and she isn’t stopping anytime soon.

On January 30, MacKenzie Scott donated $59 million to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
“This is a remarkable gift for NAMI,” said CEO Daniel H. Gillison Jr. in a statement. “It reflects great confidence in our mission, the work happening across the Alliance, and how we have continued to lead with our values. We are very grateful to MacKenzie Scott for her continued trust and partnership.”

The philanthropist also recently made a $45 million donation to The Trevor Project on January 13, an organization that focuses on suicide prevention efforts for LGBTQ youth. It currently stands as the largest donation in the organization’s history.

Scott announced that it has given $7.1 billion to non-profit groups in 2025. This represents an increase from her charitable donations of the past few years, and is one of the largest single-year totals given in history.

In an essay on her website, the philanthropist explained, “This dollar total will likely be reported in the news, but any dollar amount is a vanishingly small fraction of the personal expressions of care being shared in communities this year.” She previously donated $2.6 billion in 2024 and $2.1 billion in 2023. It has donated $26.3 billion as of 2019.

She added, “The peace-fostering byproducts of one unexpected act of kindness toward a stranger of a different background or creed can inspire a beneficial chain reaction that lasts for years. Respect, understanding, knowledge, empathy, forgiveness, inspiration – these are all meaningful contributions to others.”

After their divorce, Scott’s net worth is reported to be around $32.5 billion, according to Forbes. Jeff Bezos still owns about 9% of Amazon, with his net worth currently reported as $230.2 billion.

All this comes after reports that Bezos, who married journalist Lauren Sánchez in 2025, was reportedly still involved in a legal battle with his new wife’s brother, Michael Sánchez. In August 2025, Page Six reported that the couple’s legal team filed a motion in California Superior Court requesting that Michael Sánchez pay $182,374 in attorney’s fees and $8,182 in legal costs, “incurred in connection with (1) her successful Special Motion to Strike, and (2) this Motion for Attorney’s Fees and Expenses.”
