Mystery surrounds the death of a Massachusetts man whose remains were discovered inside a garbage can in South Carolina.
The body of David Hutchinson, 32, was found decomposing inside a garbage can at a home on Pearl Street in Marion on Thursday, January 29, according to the Marion County Coroner, WMBF reported.
Authorities are investigating his death as a homicide, Marion Police Chief Tony Flowers told News13.
Hutchinson arrived in Marion in December, reportedly after a woman he allegedly met online told him he could find a good-paying job in the area, Flowers said, WMBF reported. He was scheduled to return to Massachusetts in early January – but when he didn’t return home, his family alerted the police.

In an interview with ABC4, Flowers alleged that there were potentially 12 persons of interest in the case.

“It could be 12,” he said. “I don’t know how involved he was. Because this house he was supposed to be in, there are people in and out of the house all the time. So, there is no rhyme or reason to who lives there, who doesn’t. So, we don’t know how many people were there when this happened. If in fact it happened inside the house, outside the house, in the area.”
On Jan. 30, Jaida Braddy, 41, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to a felony in connection with Hutchinson’s death and is being held on $15,000 bail, according to jail records.
“David is not just a porter who was seen in the city, or another statistic,” his brother told News13. “He is a child, a brother, a cousin. An uncle and a friend of many people up here who loved him dearly. We prayed that this story would have a better ending, and we will miss him very much.”
“Naive and too trusting, but a good boy who made bad decisions sometimes, and this time unfortunately he had to pay the ultimate price for it,” he added.
According to a GoFundMe page, Hutchinson, a barber, had “a kind heart and the biggest personality. He was loved by all who knew him and friendly with those who didn’t.”
