‘Is It Protocol To Use Deadly Force’ if Alex Pretti ‘Has Been Dismantled?’

Fox News’s Peter Doocy interview the Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem Sunday from FEMA’s National Response Coordination Center amid the massive winter storm sweeping the country, and the shooting death of a protester Alex Pretty in Minneapolis.

After Pretti was shot and killed by border patrol officers on Saturday, Noem claimed without evidence that Pretti intended to “kill the law enforcement officers” and that the agents “fired defensive shots” to protect themselves.

A widely circulated video showed no evidence of Pretti “brandishing” a weapon as Noem claimed, before he was shot several times.

“So, you said last night, ‘It appears to be a situation where an individual arrived on the scene to inflict maximum harm on individuals and to kill law enforcement,’ Doocy said. “Did he say, ‘I’m going to kill you,’ or did he leave a note? How do you know that was his intention?”

“Part of this investigation will be hearing from those agents and officers and people on the ground,” Noem answered. “But we know that he arrived at that scene and prevented a law enforcement operation which is against federal law. It’s a crime. When he did that he interacted with those agents when they tried to get him to disengage the can, he became aggressive and resisted them during that process. These officers used their training, followed their protocols and were in fear of their lives and the people around them. “

Doocy pushed back on Noem’s use of the word “protocol.”

“You mentioned protocol — there’s an angle of a video we’ve been playing every morning that shows an officer removing a weapon from either Alex Pretti’s belt or holster, and walking away with the weapon before the officers start shooting. It appears that Alex Pretti was disarmed. If he was disarmed, is that the protocol he uses dead?” he asked.

“And this is all part of this investigation,” Noem said without addressing DHS protocol on shooting an unarmed person.

“Every video will be analyzed. Everything will be analyzed. And that’s part of the answer is that I can’t speak for every single thing that those officers thought,” Noem added. But it happened in seconds. It is clear that they feared for their lives and took action to defend themselves and the people around them.”
