Cruise made a sudden decision to move back to the United States after spending years in the UK, where he was sometimes seen enjoying outings in pubs and even dating the future king, Prince William.

According to a source who spoke to the Mail on Sundaystaff were left “stunned” by his sudden departure, with some spotted removing boxes of possessions in the £35 million “Mission Impossible” star [$47 million] London penthouse property, overlooking Hyde Park.

While the reason for his move is currently unclear, a source noted that it happened “very quickly” and it appears to have happened.

Speaking to the news outlet, the source said, “Tom loved London. He loved where he lived; he would get up and go to [a] running around Hyde Park in the morning. He loved walking in the local area, but he also enjoyed helicopter jumping in the Battersea Heliport and flying over the quintessential British countryside.”

Prior to Cruise’s apparent decision to return to the US, he had become widely known for his love of the UK, where he had been making films for over 40 years.

Last year, the actor was recognized for his contribution to the UK film industry and was awarded a BFI scholarship by the British Film Institute.

At the event in May, Cruise noted, “I’m really honoured, I’ve been making films in the UK for over 40 years and I have no plans to stop.”

Back in 2022, the actor also labeled himself an “Anglophile” because he spent a lot of time in Great Britain, and not just for work reasons.”

“I love being here,” he declared at the time, according to the Daily Mail. “It’s a fantastic mix of old and new… Britain is trendy, too, and has a lot that other countries then copy. I also love the British countryside.”

Cruise was also said to be interested in buying some property in the Cotswolds, as he hopes to strengthen his ties to the UK, making his sudden departure, which reportedly included removing his blackout curtains from his penthouse, even more puzzling.

Cruise, who has become somewhat the face of the Church of Scientology due to his vocal support over the years, has recently come under fire after locals made complaints about him and his organization.

The actor makes it his duty to attend the annual Church of England fundraiser. However, last year’s edition in December reportedly “enraged” the residents of East Grinstead due to the disruption it brought to their daily lives.

The small town located in West Sussex is home to the Church’s British headquarters and often welcomes guests in large numbers when such events are taking place.

According to the Daily Mail, the former Scientologist Alexander Barnes-Ross said that the locals are “extremely frustrated and angry” with the immediate increase in the population during the fundraising, and were particularly uncomfortable with the disruption caused by Cruise “flying on his helicopter.”

“This causes a lot of noise and inconvenience, and it is [Tom Cruise]you know, you don’t stop for photos or anything,” Barnes-Ross shared.

According to the news, a resident described the order of the Church’s procedures since the preparation stages as “very disturbing”.

“For six to eight weeks, they were putting pallets in the field to make a parking lot, so we had the disturbance and the noise of this, with truck after truck,” said the unidentified local about the Cruise Church.

During the event itself, more of this chaos follows as the Church uses generators to power heavy equipment and also plays loud musical instruments.

Reports suggest that the community feels “helpless” about what to do, as some town leaders also attend the Church and have a good relationship with the organization.

According to the Daily MailLocals have since lodged a complaint with Mid Sussex District Council, noting that the event attended by Cruise and other high-profile church members would cause “considerable disruption” in the area.

It allegedly brings traffic congestion and noise pollution. The complaint would see that the Church’s building license goes through a review.

If the local community wins, the Church may be asked to reduce the large scale of events it organizes or implement measures to protect vulnerable people.
