KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is dead after a roadside shooting on US 71 Highway, near Blue River Road, Wednesday morning in Kansas City.
According to the Kansas City Police Department, officers were called to the area of 71 Highway and Blue River Road on reports of a shooting shortly before 11:20 am.

When officers arrived, they found an SUV parked on the side of the highway with an unresponsive man suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the call was upgraded to a homicide shortly after.
An adult woman was a passenger in the SUV at the time of the shooting. KCPD says she was not injured and is currently working with investigators.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the shooting was related to road rage, and that the police are looking for two male suspects. A PIO for KCPD said it is unknown if the suspects were adults.
After the shooting, KCPD said the passenger got out of the SUV and pulled the drivers onto the highway for help.
A health care worker reportedly ended up pulling over to help the man until medical personnel and officers arrived. The PIO described the actions of the health care worker and other patrons as “commendable.”

At the moment it is not yet known where the incident took place and what led to the shooting. However, KCPD said investigations are ongoing, and more details will be released as they become available.
Kansas City Scout cameras show multiple police cars and emergency personnel in the southbound lanes of the highway. Officials are redirecting traffic off the freeway at 85th Street.
KCPD says anyone needing to travel south on the 71 freeway can do so by taking the 85th St exit and continuing south back on the freeway from the entrance ramp at Blue River Road. Expect several traffic delays and backups throughout the day.
