Former Governor of New Jersey Chris Christie An absolutely broken president Donald Trump on a variety of controversies in what the former governor called a “horrible week.”
We start a roundtable segment on Sunday on ABC’s This week, Jonathan Carl blasted Christie for his take on the plan to rename the Kennedy Center after Trump, the president’s much-criticized reaction to the assassination of Rob Reinera primetime address that failed to move the needle, and more.
“Even by Trump’s standards, this has been an erratic and chaotic week,” Karl said. “The renaming of the Kennedy Center, the things he did in the White House, the prime-time speech. What’s going on?”
“Merry Christmas to you too, Mr. President,” Christie said, tongue in cheek. “Look, this is a rather strange week. Think about it. He sends that disgraceful post about the murder of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele. Then he puts his name on the building named after an assassinated president. Then he gives a frantic speech on national TV full of inaccuracies, and it really looks like he was shouting at Americans and so far they have done. these plaques under the presidential pictures that he put on the colonnade, full of things you can tell from reading that he wrote them himself.”
“Read posts like Truth Social,” Karl said.
“He did,” agreed Christie.
The former governor made it clear that if the president continues along the current trajectory, he and his party will soon pay the price.
“Look, he does all this, Jon, in a week where 60 percent of people in the country say the economy is no better under him than it was under Joe Biden,” said Christie. “The war continues in Ukraine which he said he would resolve in 24 hours. And [Vladimir] Putin continue to manipulate him to deteriorate the 80-year-old NATO alliance. And twice now, in the past month, I have seen Republicans break from it on Capitol Hill, both on the Epstein files and on the ACA subsidies, to sign discharge petitions for the reputation of both the speaker and the president.
“It’s not a strange week, Jon, it’s a horrible week!” Christie added “And the president better wake up to the fact that he’s going to Rocky Mount, North Carolina.” [to deliver a speech]he will not solve his problems, and he better start solving the problems of the American people or our party will have a big problem in November.”
