Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of murdering conservative activist Charlie Kirk, appeared in court Thursday and was caught in a disturbing off-mic exchange in which he appeared to reflect on the fatal shooting.
During his first in-person court appearance in Provo, Utah, Robinson appeared calm, even sharing a brief laugh and smile with his attorney. But, according to a lip reading analysis by Lip Reader Limited, his private comments were much darker.
“I think about the shooting every day,” Robinson was seen telling his lawyer before the hearing began. “Every morning… all the time.”
According to the lip reader, he then appeared to refer to Erika Kirk, who is now raising the couple’s two young children alone.
“So, he had a wife…,” said the one who expected to shoot at the moment. Robinson also reportedly spoke about his mental state behind bars, saying he was a “heavy smoker” and struggled with sleepless nights.
“It’s driving me mentally,” he seemed to add, according to the New York Post. “I’m good for nothing.”
The Alleged Killer Charlie Kirk Appeared Calm In Court; Hearing On Cameras, Transcription Postponed
Despite those comments, Robinson remained composed in a blue shirt and argyle tie while in front of Judge Tony Graf.
He is accused of fatally shooting the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA on September 10 during a speech at Utah Valley University attended by thousands.
The court session centered on two issues: whether the cameras will be allowed in future proceedings, which Robinson’s team opposes, and whether portions of the previous transcript of the telephone hearing should be made public.
After more than two hours of private arguments, Judge Graf postponed his decision on both issues and scheduled a follow-up hearing for December 29.
Robinson is facing a series of serious charges, including aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, witness tampering, and committing a violent crime in the presence of a child.
He has not yet entered a plea and could face the death penalty if convicted.

The change in transparency around the case has raised eyebrows.
California-based attorney and legal analyst Roger Bonakdar said authorities were unusually open early in the investigation, releasing details that prosecutors typically keep confidential, including references to audio recordings, an alleged confession, and surveillance footage.
“When they first arrested Tyler Robinson, the information tap was sudden,” Bonakdar said, per Fox News. “They told us they had audio recordings from Tyler Robinson and an alleged confession. They told us there was video footage from a local fast-food restaurant. They were very, very almost oversharing at the beginning.”
He added: “Now they’ve turned that tap off, and they’re saying you can’t even come to court and hear about what we’re doing when most of it is probably procedural.”
